the last week of vacation we took advantage and took the city by storm
our lady of guadulape
we made our way to the virgin of guadulape with the girls and looked at all the different chapels and went to mass, had lunch and had a successful afternoon.
I think this is the first outing all 4 of us went on...
city tour
our english student wanted to show us around the town so melissa, two of our english students and i headed downtown to a museum. it was a little upsetting because two floors were closed (so only one was open), but i have no complaints because the one we saw was really cool and it was free!
then we headed towards the zocolo and looked and several sites there before deciding to go up in the observatory building (which was about 40 stories up). after going up there we went into the first Sanbourns -which is a chain restaurant here of mexican food- to see the paintings. The building has a lot of history that we heard, but honestly i don't remember a lot. i learned a lot that day so it doesn't seem i retained much info in the end at all.
then we headed home and we were tired after a full afternoon site seeing.
veracruz
i headed to veracruz for the new year and the weekend after
some interesting things
-there were lots of people parading in the streets (groups of 4 or 5) dressed in interesting costumes. i mean wearing random things...i can't really describe it. random sheets, bras, masks, etc. and banging drums. apparently it's getting rid of all the bad that happened in the past year and getting ready for the new. but they were also asking for money.... no explaination for that part.
-we went to a couple different beach towns so we saw a bit of the state. at one port it made me miss chicago a lot. it was chilly and windy and it just felt like i was walking on the lake in chicago. hmmmm.
-needless to say...no auld lang syne
HAPPY NEW YEAR
here comes 2010 ... honestly can't believe it
