I remember when I started my first photography class freshman year of college and Jenny (my professor) talked to us about which cameras to buy (and which ones to avoid) the first day. She talked about the "old" Holgas. How they can be fun, but not work for the class because they take a very distinct type of picture and we wanted to make many different kinds not just the one. She said if we were ever going for that look we could get it later, but not to use for that class. Wednesday I saw them for sale in Urban Outfitters. Not sure, but I think I might want one (not from there of course-they've been around forever so of course there are much less expensive options). But I definitely want to get the camera I did buy out again and go back to taking serious pictures =)
I find myself doing many of the same things I was doing right before I left, but now it's because I'm back.
Not much has changed...just me.
In Chicago I got to do my favorite thing. Spend time with my friends. I don't think I thanked all of you properly for coming out to seeme. THANKS! It meant more than you'll know. I did the same thing as I was leaving last year right around now. I wanted to spend as much time with each of them as possible, including many good-bye brunches, lunches, and dinners.
In St. Louis I got to go to a Cardinals game, which was a great game! The same thing I did right before I left.
***It was the cutest thing at the gamewhen a foul ball came pretty close to us and the right fielder got the ball and threw it and a guy in the row in front of us caught the ball. He didn't even pause to think and tossedit to his grandson. The look on his 8-yearish old grandson's face was PRICELESS! I wish I could remember that face forever.***
I went to the Muny though this summer I got to go twice: Sound of Music & Footloose. Of course for free. I don't remember the last time I went to the Muny and paid for seats.
Usually, I come visit home for Christmas so while everyone complained about how cold it was it didn't feel too bad to me since I was visiting from Chicago, where it was colder and I was walking outside. This time with all the heat advisories everyone is going crazy with the heat. But after living in Mexico City where during the spring it was like this and we didn't have air-conditioning I don't think it's that bad. If anything, I'm cold in the houses and sleep in sweatshirts and flannel pants.
Whenever I would come visit home from Chicago I always enjoyed the joys of a dishwasher and air-conditioning. Now I have more to be thankful for. Like hot water.
***In Mexico I would always use the hot water spout, just for kicks. I knew it would never be hot. So I was talking to my cousin how much I liked it and then like 2 seconds later I (maybe by habit) turned it all the way hot and burnt myself. I pulled back my hands and repeated out loud, "I love hot water I love hot water."***
So here I am apparently doing the same things-the things I love. But now somehow it's different.
