today i rode up to work to see every major news channel's van set-up outside the adler. which reminded me that today was the big announcement for who would receive the shuttle. then i thought, 'they're not even making the announcement until noon. what are you doing here?' but i later found out a lot of them did some morning broadcasting there.
there was excitement in the air all morning around the office. i would be lying if i didn't say i enjoyed it.
we all, at least all of education, shuffled into the theater where they would show the announcement. it was pretty full of media folks so we stood against the wall at the beginning after receiving an email stating we should not sit until the visitors sat. personally, i think it just made it awkward for the visitors who came and walked past us as we lined the walls. during this time this woman i've never met before starts telling me how great i looked in the commercial. yep, the one i tried so desperately to avoid the camera. i, unfortunately, made the cut. she said it was her favorite part in the commercial. ok missy. whatever. i just knew i failed at my avoidance attempts.
we were now told to fill in the front rows of the theater... so we did. i was happy that i found my seat next to the two new mission specialists so i could introduce myself and welcome them. so that was good.
then the leading up to the announcement begins. i mean honestly, i didn't care if the adler got a shuttle, but i was even feeling excitedly anxious. it was fun.
we didn't get one.
but staff got cake. we think it was the cake they were going to serve to visitors if we got it...
elena made the connection and i just laughed. rubina laughed with me and eventually elena came around too (she thought it was sad). i didn't feel it was sad at all. yes, it would have been exciting to get a shuttle, but the adler's getting a shuttle simulator thing and i think that's pretty exciting right there.
i was all excited about that and brought it up with elena. she said "yeah, but we already knew about that." i've been missing basically all meetings for about 2 months since i've been off-site so much so i had no idea.
1. i don't miss the meetings at all. i'd rather be with the kids
2. the fact that i didn't already know gave me something to be excited about
then i said if we already knew we were getting a shuttle simulator, shouldn't someone have made the connection we wouldn't be getting a shuttle too? about an hour later (i guess she needed some time to think about it) she said, "that's a really good point, you would think we'd have figured that out."
