I'm going to share a few things I'm thankful for this week-
*Jean
I've mentioned the start of a program at work where we go to parks everyday and work later than usual. This program brings together 10 different museums in Chicago and it's coordinated by an awesome lady, Jean. She is truly invested in this program and it shows in the best way!
She came to one of our sessions Tuesday and we were chatting for a little bit about work. I won't bore you with the whole story. What happened was she said something that clearly showed she has my back! I haven't had that feeling since Mexico with Paquita (she ran the day care I volunteered at).
I am SO thankful for the support.
I wouldn't mind working for her all the time...
*Volunteering
I had such a lovely time volunteering Saturday. (I really wish I could go all the time.) I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to volunteer (expect another post about this next week).
I'm going to share one story that I especially enjoyed.
I read and drew with Eton (a second grader). The school was in Buena Park (Uptown) an up-and-coming neighborhood in Chicago. It's sort-of like Logan Square in that it is a very mixed neighborhood, there's almost no majority race, which I enjoy.
Back to the story. Eton and I were reading a book about a surprise birthday party with some spanish involved. There was a little translation page at the front for the spanish words in the book. (Which I loved! He was impressed I spoke spanish. Although the boy across the table, Hector, a first grader who clearly speaks English and Spanish fluently was probably less than impressed.)
I promise here's the story. I was trying to explain what a tortilla was to Eton. I ended up saying it looks like a pancake, but thinner. He said, "Oh! We had those yesterday with something brown in them." "Refried beans," I said, which I tried to explain those to him earlier with no success. Bam! =)
*Rubina
I am very happy Rubina will be my companion for the program mentioned above for work. She's such lovely company. She's honest and very sensible, which I most definitely appreciate. Not to mention, super fun!
At least if I have to do this program, I'm glad she'll be with me.
*Grandma
Mom & Dad came to visit me last minute and Grandma whipped up some delightful treats for me. Thanks Grandma!
So even with the awful week I had, I still have a lot to be thankful for.
