Father's Day

Sunday is Father's Day!

We had a bit of an early celebration this year, even though we'll actually be spending the actual day together on the beach ;)

Sunday we all sat down for breakfast in the sun room and Karen & I pulled out our Father's Day gifts.

I'm definitely a card person and I'm not lying when I say I found the perfect card this year.  My mom thought I wrote the book titles on the card, they were so perfect for my dad.  Thank you to Powell's in Portland!

Then comes the gift.  Karen & I went back and forth with what we should give Dad this year.  He's definitely a barbecuer, he loves baseball, he likes to read, but doesn't want any more books at the moment.  We've all dipped in each of those interests for gifts in the past.

Karen ended up with a picture business card holder, with this gem on the fancy silver  "It's a conversation starter"

I decided to give Sprezza Box a try.
Sprezza Box is a men's subscription box with 4-5 lifestyle items and a grooming product.  Each month you receive a box "chosen based on seasons, current fashion trends and most importantly the quality."
I sent my Dad one box.  He wears a suit everyday, but he's a bit more on the classic side of fashion, rather than the trend side.  (And that's how we love you, Dado.)
As he opened it at the table none of us knew what to expect.
He didn't need any of it, but we all got a good laugh at his expressions and he'll definitely use some of it!  In my book that's a win!

What was in the box?

  • Toothpaste - as he showed everything to my grandma when we visited her later in the day, he said, "Designer Toothpaste."  We all burst out laughing.
  • A shoe horn.  A fancy one.  He uses his all the time, but this one's fancy ;)
  • A new tie!  He has more ties than anyone I know, but it's one I think he'll wear and my mom texted me today to say Michael from Kelly & Michael wore the same tie today.  Pretty fancy
  • Pocket square.  Luckily his month's was classic and my mom sent me a picture today with it sprucing up his normal suit!
  • And, finally, a pair of socks.  These socks were not outrageous in my mind.  They were a simple red and blue stripe.  The jokes started though because my dad wears nothing but black socks with his suits.  Plain black.  I told him it would be fun to spruce up his outfit and as he scoffed, my mom suggested he wear them with jeans.  And he did...for the rest of the day.  By far the funniest/funnest item in the box :)    (Oh how I wish I took a picture!)
What are you getting your dad for father's day?
Do you have your card ready?  ;)

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Fall Photos

After admiring the leaves on our runs and my bike to work, we recruited my parents to take some photos of us there this weekend.   After these photos (and tackling some IT issues for my parents) we went to a birthday gathering at the jazz festival on Cherokee Street.  I liked it more than I thought I would. As the night wore on, I started chatting with one of the friend of a friend's there.  I started going in to what a crazy year and some change it's been and, whew, it really started to overwhelm me.   This morning, Mike woke up overwhelmed by our world/specifically our country.  I woke up with that conversation still in my head and also felt overwhelmed.  We treated ourselves to Sump Coffee and had a chat.  It's not always we sit down and talk about what we want and steps to get there. Fall feels like the perfect time to reset.  As we went through the day I also thought, it's okay to miss things in the past, but it woul...
