Last weekend Mike & I decided to take a little trip to Michigan for some exploration. We took your typical route up 94 and had a lovely fall weekend.
Our first stop along the way was Greenbush Brewery. This place was crazy. We put in our name for 2 and the wait was an hour and a half. Luckily, while we were deciding whether to check out their place across the road or head somewhere else, two spots opened up at the bar. We had lunch and a drink. Not going to lie, their food was pretty solid for a brewery.
Next stop was the infamous Round Barn Estate (aka winery and brewery). I say infamous because it seems to be the first place anyone who's gone to wineries in Michigan mentions. They had quite a set-up. It was beautiful. And this is a very personal preference, but it was just too much for me. There were too many people. Too many steps to the process. Just in case you go... step 1 buy your tastings (6 tastings and a souvenir glass for $10), step 2 try and find a place at the bar to take those tastings. Yes, the bar is massive and when we were there it was packed. The brewery side of things was also crazy. I did appreciate we were able to walk through the vines a bit. That was unique.
We set out to Karma Vista and stopped at The Chocolate Garden along the way. Mike loves chocolate and we saw billboards almost the entire ride. It was on the way so we stopped in. This place was lovely. They had truffle samples (and lots of flavors to choose from). 3 samples for $2.99. We enjoyed our samples, Salted Dark Chocolate was my favorite, Dark Mint was Mike's. We got to Karma Vista and it was closed so all I can say is it was pretty.
That was our last winery stop. When we checked into our hotel Saturday night the girl working said 12 Corners is new and seems to be really popular so I would try that next time.
We wrapped up the evening visiting St. Joseph, walking the piers and watching the sunset. It was pretty lovely.
We walked around St. Joseph and it was pretty dead. It's the off-season though so it's expected. We ended up having some dinner at Silver Beach Pizza where we saw the drama of the Michigan State vs Michigan game unfold before our eyes with about half the bar filled with each set of fans.
Sunday's trip to Kalamazoo coming up next.
