Have you seen any bands in concert more than once?
I have a close battle between the number of times I've seen Walk the Moon and Matt + Kim going. Ironically, I saw both of them in concert this year. I never thought I'd be someone who saw a band more than once, honestly, but when you see a good show and you keep being drawn in by their new music, it happens.
I went to see Matt + Kim last night in St. Louis. This was one of my first concerts in St. Louis. Yes, I've attended LouFest for years, that's a music festival so it's different. Mike & I went and saw Night Riots and Dreamers at a smaller venue in the fall. I was excited to check out a larger venue and to be reunited with Matt + Kim.
They put on a show, like they always do. I wasn't sure what to expect. It's the smallest crowd I've been in for a Matt + Kim concert and vibes are just different here. Maybe it was because it was a Tuesday night. Maybe it was because it was rainy. The vibes were very mellow, which is not really what you expect at a Matt + Kim show. They brought it though and got the crowd moving.
I'm not excluding myself from these vibes. Mike called me while I was at the concert when he got home from class because he forgot I had the concert and where would I be at 9:30pm on a Tuesday night. Usually, reading a book to calm down for bed. Yep.
I'm probably not giving the crowd enough credit either. I stood in the back with my beer and danced with myself (still struggling on the friend front over here). Note: I could still see clearly. They recently redid this venue and I'd like to give them credit for the views from everywhere. I say this to make the point that if I was in front I might feel differently.
It's also possible I was just missing things. Missing the crowds in Chicago. Chicagoans are used to shitty weather and show up on a Tuesday night as much as any other. I've attended almost every Matt + Kim concert I've been to with my friend, Rubina. She was not in attendance, although I think she's going to catch them in Chicago next month. I texted here. I shed a few tears when they opened with one of their classics. And by the end, I was feeling good, guys. Concerts are an experience for so many reasons.
Different vibes.
