summer stormin´

I seem to have a history of getting caught outside when huge storms are coming in.

Two summers ago I was walking to work downtown by all the museums. I was just enjoying my walk when I noticed people looking behind me and running in the opposite direction. I turned around and saw rolling clouds coming very quickly toward me ripping apart buildings as they came. So I decided it was a good idea to run as well. I´m not sure if I made this decision because it was a good excuse to run or I was inspired by the other people or it just made my adrenaline pump. I just feel lucky I wasn´t walking towards it. I think that was the closest I ever saw like a tornado. I ran to the Shedd where I bought a $5 piece of plastic because I couldn´t be late for work and went back out in it.
Last summer, I was on the lake path biking to a doctor´s appointment when I saw a very clear line in the sky...a rough storm was ahead and I was going right into it. I figured it would be interesting, but I was wearing my raincoat (my brother´s old one...this is before I got the amazing one i have now) that was made for like 50° weather or something so I was also sweating. I just watched the lightining and listened to the booming thunder and went right at it. I arrived at the doctor´s wet, but a-okay.

Here, Wednesday night we were at a friend´s house when we started hearing the thunder and the storm hit. We lost electricity, got candles, and played cards. Once it passed we headed home with lightening lighting our way and booms or thunder in the distance, another one was coming. I really enjoyed it, but I always forget the rule on how many seconds between the two means and after the lightening or thunder do I start counting?
Yesterday, I went for a walk and before I knew it I looked up and I was suddenly under a very dark cloud with thunder in the distance. I only ended up being in the sprinkling part, but I just love the build-up to a summer storm.
And during the night I sat outside and watched lightening light up the sky in the distance. It was just so beautiful.

I really love to be in the storm and view it without any windows or anything blocking my view. I just don´t especially like being in wet clothes afterwards as I wait for them to dry.

  1. Glad that you got a new rain coat. That old one was definitely meant for colder weather. Try and stay dry and take care

museum field trip

i've been doing really well on my field trip resolution . yesterday i hit up another one:  the chicago history museum .  it turns out it was a free day there, even though i was going to get in free anyway.  that means it was busy! which is fine, i still got to take a gander around.   I've never been to the history museum before so that in itself was exciting. probably my favorite part was when they talked about the world's fair in chicago (i can't remember the exact name).  the buildings were so much grander than i imagined them in my mind while i read, devil in the white city a couple months ago.  it was fun to see what it was really like.  and wow! there was also an awesome exhibit about workers rights and such. so it was a fun little excursion.

thanksgiving time

( via ) Yes, I like Santa.  But why is everyone so anxious to start with Christmas?  Why can't we appreciate Thanksgiving first? don't get me wrong, i'm excited to watch Love Actually again (when it's in-season.  i actually watch it all year long). everyone kept talking about christmas being everywhere this month, but i really only encountered it when i walked around the mall with Greta (my sister-in-law) on Monday.  it was all over the mall.  it could have been december. look what Nordstrom is doing i'm actually really excited for thanksgiving this year... (details to follow) but as far as today goes... I have to share this with you because I think it's funny ( via ) actually... at 11:11 I was running around looking for a book called The Moon Seems to Change

SIXTY DEGREES!  We won't see that til...april?  may? obsessed  i made a baby snowman, no one wanted to help so i went with a tiny one... ;) What I would give for the day off today!  I want a nap ;)
