Happy Easter Everyone!
I love Easter. Maybe it's because it seems to be the real beginning of spring, maybe because it's such a joyous holiday.
When I was growing up Dad would always boil tons of eggs and either the weekend before or day before (can't remember) we all sat around with coffee cups full of dye and dyed all the eggs. We used rubber bands, paper towels, held the egg in halfway or a third of the way in and used all different colors, experimented with how long we left them in the dye. Good times. I think you could tell a lot about our personalities while we worked side-by-side on our eggs.
(Jeff, my brother, was always very precise with how he dyed his eggs and always had a plan he executed. He's now an engineer. My plan always seemed to change after I started, many times. And while he concentrated on one egg at a time. I always had at least three going and was constantly changing my "plan," if you can even call it that. Karen was making sure everyone had everything while working on her own eggs too.)
Then we'd wake up Sunday morning to find the eggs hidden, carrots snacked on, and a few treats for us. Then we'd go hunt for the eggs we dyed a few days prior.
We have changed or modified some traditions through the years. Examples: we don't dye eggs anymore, or hunt for them, or leave out carrots for the Easter Bunny. We do still attend Saturday night vigil mass (which may be the longest Catholic mass of the entire year). I go to Sunrise Service at Dad's church Sunday morning (Dad usually comes with me). We still go to Grandma's for breakfast and lunch. Mom still loves the chocolate bunny ears more than the rest of the bunny.
This year we went to mass, had delicious breakfast and lunch at grandma's, and then Kyle, my cousin, took us for a ride on his college graduation gift from his parents.
After all this Mom, Dad, & I skyped with Jeff, Greta, & Charlie and man oh man Charlie is already growing up on us! =)
Yes, somethings change, but that's ok. I probably wouldn't enjoy leaving out carrots for the Easter bunny anyway. (I was going to say dye eggs or hunt for them, but then I thought about it and I'd probably still enjoy both those things.)
Speaking of the Easter bunny... where did that character come from? Think about it. It doesn't make much sense.
