¿mejor? si, pero...

at the last astro overnight one of the mission specialists (part-time employee on the floor) and i were comparing our rolling rs skills aka non-existant rolling rs skills.  you need to roll your rs to speak spanish correctly.  while i was in mexico i tried to learn with my 4 year olds while a few of them tried to learn and failed.  so narin (the mission specialist) recommended using youtube and i shared what i did with my 4-year olds.  narin keeps updating me on his progress.  and to be honest, he's basically almost got it.  i kept saying by our next overnight i'd have it down or have at least put in some significant time.

our next overnight is THIS Friday and i haven't put in ANY time with rolling my rs.  i updated him saturday and told him what a failure i am, but he keeps telling me i can do it....

on a more positive note i talked to isaac this weekend and asked him how my spanish is as i just wrapped up that groupon spanish class and he actually told me it was better.  and i'm pretty sure he wouldn't lie to me (about a month ago he wasn't shy to tell me how bad my spanish got) so that made me feel pretty good.

one of my co-workers told me how she downloaded apps for newspapers from argentina (where she studied abroad) to keep up with her spanish and improve her reading.  so i did the same...  now to do the reading...

and i still need to work on my rs.

i have until friday....

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Fall Photos

After admiring the leaves on our runs and my bike to work, we recruited my parents to take some photos of us there this weekend.   After these photos (and tackling some IT issues for my parents) we went to a birthday gathering at the jazz festival on Cherokee Street.  I liked it more than I thought I would. As the night wore on, I started chatting with one of the friend of a friend's there.  I started going in to what a crazy year and some change it's been and, whew, it really started to overwhelm me.   This morning, Mike woke up overwhelmed by our world/specifically our country.  I woke up with that conversation still in my head and also felt overwhelmed.  We treated ourselves to Sump Coffee and had a chat.  It's not always we sit down and talk about what we want and steps to get there. Fall feels like the perfect time to reset.  As we went through the day I also thought, it's okay to miss things in the past, but it woul...
