i like to ride my bicycle i like to ride my bike

as the weather turns colder i probably won't be riding my bike as much anymore, but i think i will still ride it until there's snow and ice on the ground. i mean once i get going the cold subsides and i usually break a sweat.

so in honor of my bike i have some wonderful biking tips for you. and some reasons why i think biking is the best form of transportation in the city.

#1 always brake with the back brake first.

i learned this one the hard way. i think it was my first and only bike reck (at least the only one i remember). i just got a new bike and was going on a ride with one of my friends. i broke with the front break first and flipped over the top.

learned my lesson. back first. although my back break is wearing out so i have to pay attention.

#2 try to stay on streets friendly to bikers

some streets have bike lanes. find them and remember them. if possible only use them. so when i'm riding i often pray because i'm scared people will hit me when they're not paying attention so i say 'please please please see me please see me' over and over in my head and sometimes out loud and if i get really scared i squeal. i think of it like my horn.

also certain neighborhoods are better than others at recognizing bikers.

#3 get a little exercise and sun

well the sun statement doesn't really apply anymore. but during the summer when you work all day or are inside all day a little bike ride there gives you a little sun and exercise too!

#4 believe it or not it's faster

when i take my bike i can take any route i want, unlike public transportation. especially when there's a lot of traffic i just go right past it at stop signs and red lights and i get to my destination faster.

#5 get an old bike that no one will want to steal

so when i first brought my bike to chicago junior year of college. it was stolen like the first week i had it here. definitely within the first month. it was a bummer. so mom decided i could use her old bike from her 20s and 30s, which was sitting in the basement. yes, i miss my old bike, but no, i don't miss coming to where it was parked and it not being there.

#6 can't stress this one enough...get a good lock and try to get it around your tire too

that's just a tip so it isn't stolen. i've learned a lot about locking it up correctly.

AND THE #1 REASON to ride my bike

great way to save money

honestly this is probably my #1 reason for riding my bike. i save $5 (what i would have spent on trains/buses) every time i make a round trip!

i can do a lot with $5

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Lake Recap

Yep, it's recap time from the week my family and I spent at the Lake . My parents rented a house and a boat for our family for the week.  We were around mile 24 for those of you who've been there before. Dad, Mom, Jeff, Greta & Charlie all slept in the guest house so that meant... Karen & I had the whole main house to ourselves.  ;)  (If only we didn't disagree on the temperature so much. I like it warmer than her).   That might be a bit of an exaggeration.  We had the whole place to ourselves, unless someone wanted food, hang out in the living room, do laundry, etc. We pretty much relaxed the whole time we were there.   We were out on the boat at least once a day. Karen & I are ready for a day on the boat! We got in some tubing and skiing.  (No pictures exist of tubing, but it happened.  My scabs from the cloth burn just came off at the end of last week.  And just ask Karen.  She was sore.  We all were.) ...
