a day in the life

friday...friday

a normal day as i head out the door, except i`m alone because melissa is sick. but that feeling only lasted a couple seconds as i see completely stopped cars and one side of the street there were no cars...only people walking-some running. Apparently there was a protest because a lot of people in santa fe do not have water right now (and haven`t for about 2-3 weeks). They didn`t get a warning that the water was being turned off and they say it was for repairing a pipeline, but there are doubts as to the real reason...

I arrive in my classroom before the kids and I was very surprised and excited to see all new tables and chairs. Soon after the kids finished breakfast and i was so happy i got to see all their SUPER excited faces for the new tables and chairs. =) Poor Cristofer was so excited because he got new tennis shoes, but all the attention was directed at the new tables and chairs so he came up to me probs because he knew i would acknowledge his shoes, which i did and we were excited together. =)

Lucy is trying to get the kids to learn the days of the week and someone guessed Domingo (Sunday) everytime a kid guesses a weekend day Lucy says no we`re not in school on that day. So when someone said Domingo she said no what do we do on Domingo. Jacky said we see our dads on Domingo. None of the kids thought this was strange at all...

I continued to prep for Christmas activities for the kids. Apparently we are making kleenex covers that look like houses with snowmen and windows with glitter, etc. So today was window day for me. I also cut out more noche bueno (poincettas...i will never know how to spell the name of that plant) leaves...i think i`m done with that now.

We started learning We Wish You A Merry Christmas in English class. It`s a little different version than the original...the verses include
-let`s all do a little clapping
let`s all do a little clapping
let`s all do a little clapping
and wish you good cheer
-let`s all do a little jumping, etc.

The new kid (I think he started Tuesday) told me te quiero (i like you a lot) so that should be a good sign...right? let's hope he doesn't become a trouble maker.

Murat (who's usually not a very patient kid) cleaned up all the gold glitter from the floor, put it on the front of his sweater and said "Look i'm like Michael Jackson". That kid loves michael jackson. i had to laugh and didn't yell at him at all. i mean it was on the floor to begin with and that's where it was going to end up again.

I went to the park to go running after work and on the way home I got on the bus for it to instantly veer into the other lane (the one with on coming traffic)...which isn`t all that abnormal. but the good news is: we did actually stop at the red light (doesn`t always happen) we just stopped in about the middle of the intersection. Well, I`ll take what I can get.

So that was my Friday. =)

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Lake Recap

Yep, it's recap time from the week my family and I spent at the Lake . My parents rented a house and a boat for our family for the week.  We were around mile 24 for those of you who've been there before. Dad, Mom, Jeff, Greta & Charlie all slept in the guest house so that meant... Karen & I had the whole main house to ourselves.  ;)  (If only we didn't disagree on the temperature so much. I like it warmer than her).   That might be a bit of an exaggeration.  We had the whole place to ourselves, unless someone wanted food, hang out in the living room, do laundry, etc. We pretty much relaxed the whole time we were there.   We were out on the boat at least once a day. Karen & I are ready for a day on the boat! We got in some tubing and skiing.  (No pictures exist of tubing, but it happened.  My scabs from the cloth burn just came off at the end of last week.  And just ask Karen.  She was sore.  We all were.) ...
