spring/summer day

I can't decide if today was more spring or summer, but it was pretty awesome.

After initially being upset because my volunteer activity was canceled (because of NATO), I didn't let it keep me down too long.

I started the beautiful day off with a lovely longish run!  Perfect.
There's this blooming bush about a half mile from my place and it smells SO good right now.  I have no idea what it is, but it's the perfect beginning and end to my run.
it's on the path near Diversey, in case you're wondering
Then I made it to the Farmer's Market for the first time in 2012!
I love the farmer's market.  And I love that I didn't have to go at 8am while the vendors were setting up and hurriedly grab things on my way to work.  Yea for not having to work Saturdays!
There are a few changes this year, but change happens.
I walked away with tomatoes grown outside, asparagus, and bread for $11.
Which tomato would you rather have?
The one from the grocery store (left) or the one from the farmer's market (right)?
I grabbed off a piece of the fresh bread on my walk (don't judge me, I just ran 9 miles, I was hungry) and immediately had a flashback to México.
(And yes this is right after I decided to start watching my carbohydrate intake... but it's fresh and sooooo good.)
My housemates and I used to LOVE this pan integral (wheat bread) that came in a large loaf from a lady who sold it out of, basically, a shed.  She had somewhat odd, unpredictable hours, but we loved her and were great customers.  Anytime one of the four of us would walk up she knew we wanted a loaf of the pan integral and if something special was happening (or we were having a rough day) we'd get a muffin, etc. (all made with wheat flour).
We really liked her, especially since we weren't really used to having no wheat options, which is what everyone else sold.
Those loaves were a treat and would go very fast in our house.  It was always a treat when I got one slice.  So here I am with my huge loaf all for myself and I feel quite spoiled.
But it is delicious!

I went on from the farmer's market to donate some things to Brown Elephant.  It was another uncomfortable box to carry.  Not because it was big.  Because it was heavy.  I made it though and I made my donation!

I stocked up on Gatorade and Honest Tea at Jewel because I was happy to see they were on sale for $1.  I know Gatorade is not great for you, but when I want electrolytes in a cold, liquid form, my choices are limited.  I used to love Luna's Electrolyte Splash, but that is gone.  Oh, well.  Gatorade it is.

Then it was relaxation time at the lake.

Lovely!

Last Saturday was very go go go so it was nice to have a bit of a relaxing day and I'm so happy summer came to visit for the day!

Now I think I'll go back to the lake and watch the helicopters fly overhead (NATO)...

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Lake Recap

Yep, it's recap time from the week my family and I spent at the Lake . My parents rented a house and a boat for our family for the week.  We were around mile 24 for those of you who've been there before. Dad, Mom, Jeff, Greta & Charlie all slept in the guest house so that meant... Karen & I had the whole main house to ourselves.  ;)  (If only we didn't disagree on the temperature so much. I like it warmer than her).   That might be a bit of an exaggeration.  We had the whole place to ourselves, unless someone wanted food, hang out in the living room, do laundry, etc. We pretty much relaxed the whole time we were there.   We were out on the boat at least once a day. Karen & I are ready for a day on the boat! We got in some tubing and skiing.  (No pictures exist of tubing, but it happened.  My scabs from the cloth burn just came off at the end of last week.  And just ask Karen.  She was sore.  We all were.) ...
