Summer Reading

While you're reading, do you ever get annoyed with editing mistakes.  I understand the people who proofread are flying through books and we're all human and make mistakes.  It just completely throws off my reading flow.  In books where there are one or two mistakes, no big deal.  But where there are tons of editing mistakes, it just gets annoying.

But anywho here are the books I've been reading.  Maybe it will give you an idea or two.

What the Dog Saw - Malcolm Gladwell
What a collection of quite intriguing articles.  There's something in here for everyone.  I can honestly say I learned things reading this book and then had intelligent conversations with friends about it.  Yay!
It's such an array of topics, there's something for everyone.  And the way he approaches the articles drew me right in.

The Eat This Not That!  No Diet!  Diet - David Zinczenko with Matt Goulding
This is what it says.  It was interesting and a quick read, although I'm not sure how much I got from it.

This one was a recommended reading book for my job.
It definitely brought up issues of culture clashing to be thought about and discussed.

Then Came You - Jennifer Weiner
I needed a check read that wouldn't make me think at all.  And that's what this one was.  Four seemingly unrelated women wind up having a big role in each other's lives, while figuring themselves out along the way.

The Enlightened Cyclist - Bike Snob NYC
This one was good.  Not only was it hard on cars for almost killing so many bikers, but it was hard on bikers too for acting stupid.  No, car drivers, not all bikers act stupidly, but some definitely do.  And they give all bikers a bad name.
"In fact, it's because I enjoy cycling so much that I know there's no freaking way most non-cycling people are suddenly going to start riding a bicycle, since it's my love of it that makes me put up with the indignity of cycling in a society that hates me for doing it & doesn't even want to give me my own tiny little lane."
Look... Denmark has a bike highway!
Because of this book I will always call a biker salmoning when they're riding the wrong way on a one-way street.

Double Shot - Diane Mott Davidson
This was a book I borrowed from my grandma.  Meaning it's a mystery.  A nice little mystery.  I zipped right through it.

Carrie Pil'by - Caren Lissner
This was a book I borrowed from my sister.  (Can you tell I'm trying to return all the books that got put on hold while I tried to keep up with the library?  Now the library is on hold and I'm catching up on borrowed books.)

Mourning Dove - Aimee & David Thurlo
This is another Grandma book.  A Navajo infused mystery.

As you can see, most of my reads this summer were fluff stories.  Maybe I'll switch that up once I finish up with the books from my grandma and sister that I'm still working through.

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Lake Recap

Yep, it's recap time from the week my family and I spent at the Lake . My parents rented a house and a boat for our family for the week.  We were around mile 24 for those of you who've been there before. Dad, Mom, Jeff, Greta & Charlie all slept in the guest house so that meant... Karen & I had the whole main house to ourselves.  ;)  (If only we didn't disagree on the temperature so much. I like it warmer than her).   That might be a bit of an exaggeration.  We had the whole place to ourselves, unless someone wanted food, hang out in the living room, do laundry, etc. We pretty much relaxed the whole time we were there.   We were out on the boat at least once a day. Karen & I are ready for a day on the boat! We got in some tubing and skiing.  (No pictures exist of tubing, but it happened.  My scabs from the cloth burn just came off at the end of last week.  And just ask Karen.  She was sore.  We all were.) ...
