Halloween Recap 2012

Do you like Halloween?

I mean I guess I sort-of do...
I've never really gotten into it.  I just pretty much do enough to get by and I never buy anything.  Everything in my outfit always comes from my closet.

Saturday night I went to a friend's Halloween party, which was fun.  They set-up a photo booth...

the hand jive, of course
don't you do the hand jive at all your parties?
(my friend was a sock hop girl & we decided it was a good idea and eventually got pretty much everyone to join in)
After getting back to Chicago yesterday afternoon, I was so so so so so happy to see dry ground and the temperature that was the same as Cleveland felt 10 degrees warmer.  Wahoo!

Last night my friend & I went to the Halsted Street Parade, which I always love to watch.  We were a bit chilly, but stuck it out through the awards.  I didn't agree with the awards so I will give my own.

  • The Piñata (honestly I could only see the top half - a lot of people watch the parade - but it was awesome)
  • Big Bird & the dog from Sesame Street.  I thought the idea was cute, but rather expected (they handed out Obama stickers as they walked along).  Then at the very end we saw the costume was made out of poster board and yellow leis.  That right there makes them winners in my book.
  • The mermaids.  This guy and girl dressed up as mermaids and they were legit.  They had the bottom green thing and the guy was wearing flip flops and no shirt.  The girl was wearing those tiki bra things.  Remember I mentioned it was chilly.  Those two waited the whole time through the awards wearing just that, posing for tons of pictures, and seeming like nice people.  And that is why they win in my book.  Anyone who can wait that long in the cold wearing very little.  I would not have done it.
Then I went home & watched a show I watch every week (on Hulu).  It was their Halloween episode and it scared me.  To be honest, it really wasn't all that scary, but I hate being scared.  This is why I do not watch scary movies.  With the combination of the scary costumes at the parade (at one point Rubina & I both stepped away from a creepy costume without speaking) and the scary episode made it hard for me to fall asleep last night (& I double checked my door was locked and checked my closet, etc.).  Yes, I'm 25.  What?

For this reason, I'm not the biggest fan of Halloween, but I'm always up for a reason to get together with people & celebrate.

museum field trip

i've been doing really well on my field trip resolution . yesterday i hit up another one:  the chicago history museum .  it turns out it was a free day there, even though i was going to get in free anyway.  that means it was busy! which is fine, i still got to take a gander around.   I've never been to the history museum before so that in itself was exciting. probably my favorite part was when they talked about the world's fair in chicago (i can't remember the exact name).  the buildings were so much grander than i imagined them in my mind while i read, devil in the white city a couple months ago.  it was fun to see what it was really like.  and wow! there was also an awesome exhibit about workers rights and such. so it was a fun little excursion.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...
