Orlando Conference

After all my chatting about leaving traveling behind me with my new job...I traveled this week.  But don't worry, it's just a coincidence.  I will be traveling, but approximately 4 times a year, rather than 4 times a month.  This week, I was in Orlando at a conference.  And let me tell you:  traveling for conferences are much more fun than traveling to in-service in hospitals!

#1 After many months of no sunshine, we had a little time to soak some up.  Which was beyond lovely!  I never thought to travel with a swimsuit at my old job.  There was never time.  But Monday the girls told me to absolutely bring my swimsuit.  I followed directions and briefly got to use it!!!
clearly i have no idea what i need for warm weather.
i did not pack sandals or sunglasses
I met more peeps from my new company, in different departments, which was wonderful.  And it was interesting to hear about their experiences.  Talk about being thrown right into dynamics or drama...work a conference the first week :)

One night we went over to Downtown Disney, which I don't need to go back to, but I'm glad i saw it and it was enjoyable.  (i also learned downtown disney is not connected or close(?) to actual disney.)

Kat Cole was the key note speaker and she was good!  Such a good speech.  She walked out on the stage and I thought...'Wow!  She's so young!'  And she killed it.

I love this dress from Madewell because it goes so easily from day to night (at Downtown Disney)!

And jeeze the sponsored after-party was amazing!  Well.  Let me start at the beginning.  The last night they had a reception on the little concrete island on the resort.  They had a live islandish band and it was super fun, although they wanted to card me.  After I explained I'm 27 and with the support of some of the members behind me, they ended up serving me.  Come on.  Then there was about an hour about 7 of us headed to hang out outside before heading to the sponsored after-party.  It was like a rave or something.  And very unexpected.  They gave out these white baseball caps for everyone to wear, which I did not want so I didn't take one on the way in...they literally found me in the bar and gave me one so I had to wear it.  Everyone was wearing these strange white baseball hats.  So funny.  Then we most definitely got our dance on!

Many members put these I heart Lawyers ribbons on it jest.  Of course, I actually meant it so I wore one with pride.
At the last night party some guy said, "You don't actually love lawyers."
I said, Yes, I actually do..pause for dramatic build...my dad's a lawyer & I love him very much.
Guy: "Oh"
Me: "I guess I could edit it to say I heart a lawyer."

In other news, one of my new co-workers works for some make-up place on the side and I told her, "great because i have no idea what i'm doing, you can teach me."  She said, "You have such a great complexion.  I can't wait to teach you."
I'm going to see her everyday.  No pressure ;)

p.s. Sounds like this year, I'll be visiting Toronto, San Antonio, and Nashville for conferences.
I don't think I've ever been to Toronto.  Wait, is that where you board cruise ships to Alaska.  Then yes.  Clearly, I have no idea the geography of Canada.
And I haven't been to Nashville in quite awhile.
San Antonio.  Yep, done that.

museum field trip

i've been doing really well on my field trip resolution . yesterday i hit up another one:  the chicago history museum .  it turns out it was a free day there, even though i was going to get in free anyway.  that means it was busy! which is fine, i still got to take a gander around.   I've never been to the history museum before so that in itself was exciting. probably my favorite part was when they talked about the world's fair in chicago (i can't remember the exact name).  the buildings were so much grander than i imagined them in my mind while i read, devil in the white city a couple months ago.  it was fun to see what it was really like.  and wow! there was also an awesome exhibit about workers rights and such. so it was a fun little excursion.

Kitchen Safety

We moved!  We're in our new place and we just got wifi.  Wahoo! I definitely broke in the kitchen quickly.  I was making a panini type sandwich for a potluck get together so I preheated the oven.  The next thing I knew the fire alarm was going off.  Let me tell you they did not skimp on a very loud fire alarm.  Ahhhhhhhh I opened the oven, which I know you're not supposed to do.  In the moment, I think I needed to see what I was dealing with.  There were definite flames.  Ahhhhhhhh So I called Mike while trying to google what to do.  He was super calm the entire call while I freaked out (it probably helped that he couldn't see the smoke billowing out of the oven).   He said to throw baking soda on it.  I did.  It seemed to fizzle but came back. I searched the apartment for a fire extinguisher (maybe I should have looked for one before this moment). This is while I kept trying to silence the fire ...
