i won't give up on you resolution

i made it through winter without getting sick... up until now.  i credited my luck to my extremely strong immune system, which i worked to an all time high while being sick basically all of last winter  4 year olds will do that to you.
but yuck.
i probably asked for it.  walking in the cold with a tank & boa (moulin rouge themed bachelorette party).  oh i had some gloves too.

yeah i know i asked for it.  but they can smoke in bars in missouri.  who wants to get their coats all smoky?  not i.
but i have orange juice.  the good stuff, not from concentrate so i'll just drink more of it.

but i wasn't going to let that stop me.  i was determined to take full advantage of my 1st real day off work in weeks.
i noticed how badly i've been doing with my new year's resolutions and i refuse to be one of those people who stops before march 1st.  so today i went all in.

in one word how would i describe the pedway?
very confusing
#1 finding the entrance.  it was my first of many going down looking around and turning right back around.
these logos marking the pedway became my good friends.

i found many things i didn't know existed underground:  2 gyms (one looking right into the pool), a mall, several food courts.  i even saw an andy's.  how have i heard of andy's before?  i've definitely never been to one.  karen-is that what amanda always talks about in springfield?
i would go up the escalator, make a 180° turn and go right back down the other way.  i'm sure i had some curious stares.
the most confusing part was city hall.  luckily i read about it beforehand and how it seems like pedway ends, but it doesn't.
i don't mind looking silly though.
so i'm glad i did it!  it was amazing how quickly i walked across town and back again since i was cutting under blocks and not dealing with stop lights.
and fun facts:  i had cell phone service underground and the girl from glee (i don't remember her name and i don't know her glee name either... the tall blonde teacher) is from chicago and she was in second city (there was a window exhibit down there).

as i headed back to my neck of the woods i took a different street than normal and found castles houses.  they were the biggest houses i've seen in the city and they even sort-of had yards.  wow!

i hit up trader joe's and started my cooking.

i attempted to make vegan cookies (i didn't have butter), but i like to add all kinds of different things to my cookies that aren't necessarily in the recipe and i wasn't really paying attention this time so they didn't turn out like cookie batter.  so i made bars/brownies.  and they're good anyway.
then i started in on the main event:  polenta with mushroom gravy.
it was delicious.  maybe not quite as good as when karen & i went to 1111 misssissippi in the summer, where i got a similar dish, but wonderful.  and much cheaper! =)

Fall Fun!

We could not have asked for better fall weather this weekend.  70 degrees.  Sunny.  We just wanted to be outside the entire time.   We went for runs and decided we needed to spend even more time appreciating the fall foliage, which apparently will peak in two weeks.  So two more weeks to enjoy!  We checked out a new to us restaurant.   Then we took a trip to Grant's Farm, which neither one of us had been to since we were kids.  And neither one of us remembered.  Capping off another day spent outside. Monday I hopped on my bike to get to work and my body felt tired from the fun of the weekend.  I looked out my window at my desk and saw so many beautiful leaves, I took a photo on the walk back to where I park my bike. P.S. Yes, I got a new job!  Hooray!  A more detailed update is coming.

26 miles in 26 days

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. Last year the weekend of the marathon I rested. This year Friday night I went to my first quinceanera and got home at 4 a...

Lake Recap

Yep, it's recap time from the week my family and I spent at the Lake . My parents rented a house and a boat for our family for the week.  We were around mile 24 for those of you who've been there before. Dad, Mom, Jeff, Greta & Charlie all slept in the guest house so that meant... Karen & I had the whole main house to ourselves.  ;)  (If only we didn't disagree on the temperature so much. I like it warmer than her).   That might be a bit of an exaggeration.  We had the whole place to ourselves, unless someone wanted food, hang out in the living room, do laundry, etc. We pretty much relaxed the whole time we were there.   We were out on the boat at least once a day. Karen & I are ready for a day on the boat! We got in some tubing and skiing.  (No pictures exist of tubing, but it happened.  My scabs from the cloth burn just came off at the end of last week.  And just ask Karen.  She was sore.  We all were.) ...
