volume down

so i've figured out the volume on my music in the morning usually correlates to how excited i am to go to work. loud volume = don't want to go or i'm on my way home (i just want to be home). quiet volume = i feel like i can handle it and i want to talk to all the bus drivers, etc.

today was surprisingly a low volume day.

i'm really not sure why.
maybe because it's jean friday?
maybe because the sun's out? i walked to bus #1 with the sun on me and i actually said out loud, "thank you sun, for shining today."
maybe because i'm finishing another book?
maybe it's because i get to teach a mission specialist a new cart at work?
maybe it's because i have something to do at work?

whatever it is it's definitely not because it's 0 degrees outside. this is not an exaggeration, unfortunately. i looked at the school, which has the temp up all the time on my walk home from the gym and it said 02°. brrrrrrrr!

as i dreaded emerging from the red line i looked around to see the entire entrance to the el decorated for valentine's day. i noticed some in the little box for the worker earlier, but now it's all over the entry thingys too. i laughed a little bit. i've never been a big supporter of valentine's day, but i like that this person is =)

museum field trip

i've been doing really well on my field trip resolution . yesterday i hit up another one:  the chicago history museum .  it turns out it was a free day there, even though i was going to get in free anyway.  that means it was busy! which is fine, i still got to take a gander around.   I've never been to the history museum before so that in itself was exciting. probably my favorite part was when they talked about the world's fair in chicago (i can't remember the exact name).  the buildings were so much grander than i imagined them in my mind while i read, devil in the white city a couple months ago.  it was fun to see what it was really like.  and wow! there was also an awesome exhibit about workers rights and such. so it was a fun little excursion.

So the title isn`t exactly correct, but I ran a marathon yesterday and it was Melissa & my`s one month being here. But Caro helped me come up with the title and I thought it was catchy. So marathon #2 and a completely different experience than the one I ran last year in Chicago. Lisa Rottler Chamberlin is the name I ran the race with...I tried to sign up as Lisa Rottler, but it forced me to enter mom`s maiden name or i couldn`t continue with registration. the first difference I experienced this marathon in a very different way. In Chicago I was competitive I would say. It was on my mind since February of last year when I signed up. I was didigent about training and very serious about it. This year I signed up like 3 weeks ago and it was very last minute. Although, I ran like I was training for the marathon this summer in Chicago-that was 2 months ago. thanksgiving time

( via ) Yes, I like Santa.  But why is everyone so anxious to start with Christmas?  Why can't we appreciate Thanksgiving first? don't get me wrong, i'm excited to watch Love Actually again (when it's in-season.  i actually watch it all year long). everyone kept talking about christmas being everywhere this month, but i really only encountered it when i walked around the mall with Greta (my sister-in-law) on Monday.  it was all over the mall.  it could have been december. look what Nordstrom is doing i'm actually really excited for thanksgiving this year... (details to follow) but as far as today goes...
